West Seattle High School's Unified Squad Is Headed To Minneapolis and Nobody in Washington Is Ready For It

Alright, 12s, listen up because we've got some HUGE news dropping for our city that's going to make you stand up and cheer! Forget the usual weekday grind, because something truly special is happening right here in the Emerald City. Our very own West Seattle High School Unified Basketball team just snagged an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: they've been selected to represent Washington State at the Special Olympics USA Games in Minneapolis, Minnesota, this June 2026! Can you believe it? West Seattle is going national, and we gotta rally around these incredible athletes!

This Is What Seattle Sports Is All About

Seriously, this isn't just another high school trip. Rachel Myers, the WSHS Unified Sports coordinator, hit the nail on the head when she called this a "once-in-a-lifetime" chance to compete and "show what's possible." Think about that. These players, our neighbors, our community, are getting ready to step onto a national stage and demonstrate the true power of inclusion and unity. WSHS is already a Special Olympics National Banner Unified Champion School, which tells you everything you need to know about how they lead with these values. They're not just playing basketball, they're showing the world what it means to be a unified force. It's an incredible honor, and frankly, it embodies everything we love about our city's spirit.

Let's Get Our Wildcats to Minneapolis!

So, what's next? Getting our WSHS Unified team to Minneapolis takes some serious support, and that's where the rest of us in the 206 come in! The team needs our help to cover travel costs, ensure they have everything they need to compete at their best, and just generally thrive on this national stage. We're talking about making sure every single player has the resources and support they deserve so they can be seen and shine. There's a Zeffy fundraiser set up, and honestly, every single donation makes a difference. Let's show these Wildcats the full power of the Seattle fan base, just like we pack Lumen Field or T-Mobile Park. Supporting these players isn't just about basketball, it's about investing in our community and celebrating what makes Seattle great. Speaking of our teams, the Mariners are back home tonight, kicking off a 6:40 pm game against San Diego. Get down to T-Mobile if you can. But while you're thinking about tonight's action, let's keep the real buzz going for West Seattle High School. This trip to the Special Olympics USA Games is huge. Let's make sure these amazing players feel every ounce of our support. Go Cats, and Go Seattle!
