Zach Cole Walks Off the Mariners in the 10th, and Houston Escapes with the Win

The Mariners had their chance to steal one in Houston on Tuesday night, but the Astros had other ideas. Seattle pushed the game to extra innings tied at three apiece, only to watch Zach Cole deliver the dagger in the 10th inning as Houston walked off with a 4-3 victory at home.

This one stings. The M's had all the opportunities to put this game away earlier, but baseball has a way of punishing you when you don't capitalize. Now you're heading into the next matchup knowing you left a win on the table down in Texas.

How It Played Out

The Mariners and Astros battled through nine innings of tight baseball, neither team able to pull away. Both offenses scratched for runs, but neither could break through decisively. That's how you end up tied heading to extras, and that's exactly where this game was headed when the ninth inning came to a close.

Cole stepped up in the 10th with the game still on the line, and he made sure Houston wouldn't need to bat again. One swing, one moment, and the Astros were celebrating at home plate while the Mariners were left wondering what could have been.

The Road Ahead

This is baseball, and one loss doesn't define a season. But losses like this, walk-off defeats on the road, they stick with you. The Mariners need to regroup quickly and get back to playing their game. There are plenty of games left to make up ground, but you have to take care of business when you have the chance, especially in games like this where you had the opportunity to leave Houston with a win.
