Brendan Sorsby Just Applied for the NFL Supplemental Draft, and Our Seahawks Need to Be All Over It

Holy smokes, 12s, did you hear the news? A potential game-changing quarterback just dropped into the NFL draft pool, and our beloved Seahawks absolutely have to be paying attention. Brendan Sorsby, a QB out of Cincinnati, is officially applying for the NFL supplemental draft. We’re talking about a guy his college coach, Scott Satterfield, thinks could've been a first-round pick. This isn’t just some everyday prospect, this is an opportunity that could shake things up big time for the future of our team at Lumen Field!

The Scoop on Sorsby: A First-Round Talent on the Market?

Cincinnati's head coach, Scott Satterfield, who coached Sorsby for his final two college seasons, spilled the beans on Tuesday. He was talking about an inaugural "Victory Bell" rivalry game, but the real bombshell was Sorsby. Satterfield confirmed that NFL general managers and scouts have already been reaching out, asking questions on a "more personal level, probably more than the football level," because they knew "potentially something like this could happen."

And now that it's out there, Satterfield expects a flood of inquiries. This isn't just wishful thinking from a college coach, either. Satterfield is confident Sorsby will find an NFL home quickly. He straight up said, "I certainly expect there to be takers." Get this: before all this went public, Satterfield noted that all 32 NFL teams had visited their campus, and a ton of them were already asking about Sorsby. He described Sorsby as "very talented, has great size, and can run and throw." This dude sounds like a physical specimen, exactly what you look for in a modern NFL QB!

The Red Flags and the Big Risk, Big Reward Play

Now, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. There's a reason teams are asking questions on a "more personal level." NFL teams have a ton of work to do, even during what's usually the slow season. Beyond his Pro Day workout on July 10, they need to dig deep into his physical abilities, but also his "addiction and associated anxiety." And the biggest hurdle? Teams need to make a "reliable projection that Sorsby will not be eventually at the center of a gambling scandal, once he gets to the NFL."

That's a heavy hit, no doubt. But here's where Satterfield's confidence really shines through. He pointed out that if you "just look at the history of the NFL, there are guys who have made mistakes, and they still have taken chances on them." Satterfield believes Sorsby will have "learned from this and grown," and someone will absolutely give him a shot. Why? Because finding a long-term, franchise quarterback is ridiculously hard, and the potential reward of landing one makes teams willing to assume significant risk. It’s all about finding that cornerstone piece.

So, what does this mean for our Seahawks? We have Sam Darnold leading the charge right now, but a supplemental draft pick is about the future, about building a roster for years to come. Sorsby's best bet is to land with a team that has a solid plan to help him with that "sudden and dramatic adjustment" to the NFL. Could Mike Macdonald and Brian Fleury cook up that plan here in the Emerald City? This is an exciting, albeit complicated, opportunity that the Seahawks front office absolutely needs to be investigating. Let's see if our guys are ready to make a bold move for the future!
