Liberty Christian Patriots, Bella Rogel Capture 1B State Softball Title in Yakima Triumph

YAKIMA, Wash. - The Liberty Christian Patriots have once again etched their name into Washington state high school softball history, claiming the 1B state championship title in a thrilling 7-4 victory over Naselle High School in Yakima. This monumental win not only caps off a dominant 22-2 season for the Richland-based squad but also marks their third state championship in the past five years, solidifying their place as a true powerhouse in Washington prep sports. For the Patriots, reaching the WIAA state championship game has become an annual tradition, with this being their fifth consecutive appearance.

Redemption for a Seasoned Senior

Leading the charge for Liberty Christian was senior pitcher Bella Rogel, a formidable talent committed to Jackson State. The championship provided a sweet taste of redemption for Rogel, especially after a heartbreaking loss in last year's title game. Her determination and leadership were palpable throughout the tournament. "I think we did all collectively have the same goal in mind," Rogel shared, reflecting on the team's unwavering focus. "I know for me, being a senior, I wanted to leave on a high note, leave on a win. Last year's loss was pretty bitter and it's one of those losses that you think about every night because you lose by one. So just the mindset that I didn't want to lose, I didn't want to go home with nothing." Her fierce resolve propelled the Patriots when it mattered most, showcasing the grit and passion that define Washington's finest high school athletes.

A Family Affair on the Diamond

The championship held an even deeper significance for the Rogel family, as Bella's father, Edgar Rogel, serves as the team's head coach. Coach Rogel has had the unique opportunity to guide his daughter to state championships in both her freshman and senior seasons, a rare and cherished experience for any father and coach. "Just thankful to God that we were able to do that and achieve that success one more time with her," Edgar Rogel expressed, beaming with pride. "As a dad, what more could you want, right? As a dad you're here for them, and you're able to leave the field with that, watching your daughter win a championship." This familial bond extends throughout the team, fostering an environment of trust and mutual support. Junior catcher Megan Butcher highlighted the squad's tight-knit chemistry, stating, "We are a very close-knit, tight group. I mean we have a really small school so we're always really close to each other. So I think family, we always pick each other up and make sure we have each other's backs."

Building a Dynasty in 1B Softball

This latest triumph is Liberty Christian's fourth softball state title in program history, with all four championships remarkably secured within the past 11 years. This consistent excellence establishes the Patriots as a dominant force and a perennial contender in Washington state's 1B softball landscape. The sustained success is a testament to the dedication of the players, the strategic vision of Coach Rogel, and the unwavering support of the Liberty Christian community. As the confetti settles on another incredible season, the future looks incredibly bright for this program, poised to continue its winning tradition for years to come.
