Liberty Christian Patriots Crowned 1B State Softball Champions, Capping a Dominant Season

YAKIMA, WA - The Liberty Christian High School softball team has once again ascended to the pinnacle of Washington state prep sports, claiming the 1B WIAA state championship with a thrilling 7-4 victory over Naselle High School. This monumental win in Yakima on Saturday not only secured their third state title in five years but also marked the fourth championship in program history, solidifying the Patriots' status as a true dynasty in Washington 1B softball.

The Richland-based squad concluded their spectacular season with an outstanding 22-2 record, a testament to their unwavering dedication and talent. For senior pitcher and Jackson State commit Bella Rogel, this championship offered sweet redemption after a heartbreaking loss in last year's title game. "I think we did all collectively have the same goal in mind," Rogel stated. "I know for me, being a senior, I wanted to leave on a high note, leave on a win. Last year's loss was pretty bitter, and it's one of those losses that you think about every night because you lose by one. So just the mindset that I didn't want to lose, I didn't want to go home with nothing." Her grit and leadership were evident throughout the tournament, guiding her team through every high-pressure moment.

A Family Affair: Coaching to Glory

This latest championship holds profound significance for the Rogel family, as Bella's father, Edgar Rogel, serves as the team's head coach. Coach Rogel had the rare and cherished opportunity to coach his daughter to state championships in both her freshman and senior seasons, a storybook ending to her illustrious high school career. "Just thankful to God that we were able to do that and achieve that success one more time with her," Edgar Rogel shared, beaming with pride. "As a dad, what more could you want, right? As a dad you're here for them, and you're able to leave the field with that, watching your daughter win a championship." This unique bond undoubtedly fueled the team's spirit and determination.

The Heart of the Patriots: Unbreakable Bonds

The success of Liberty Christian isn't solely built on individual talent, but on the deep, close-knit relationships within the team. Junior catcher Megan Butcher emphasized the special dynamic that defines the Patriots. "We are a very close-knit, tight group. I mean we have a really small school so we're always really close to each other," Butcher explained. "So I think family, we always pick each other up and make sure we have each other's backs." This unwavering support system was evident in their resilient play, particularly in crucial moments when Naselle mounted challenges. Their ability to consistently make it to the state championship game, now five consecutive appearances, speaks volumes about the program's enduring strength and the culture of excellence fostered by Coach Rogel and his staff.

This fourth state title in 11 years firmly establishes Liberty Christian as a consistent powerhouse in Washington state 1B softball. With a blend of senior leadership and talented underclassmen, the future continues to look incredibly bright for the Patriots program.
