Ruben Amorim Is Taking Over AC Milan, And Manchester United Is STILL Paying For It

Alright, Seattle, listen up! We’ve got some HUGE news dropping out of European football, and honestly, it’s got me buzzing. Ruben Amorim, the 41-year-old manager, has officially agreed to become AC Milan's next head coach! Can you believe it? The deal isn't inked just yet, but the word is he’s flying into Milan this week to sign a two-year contract. Milan is bringing in one of the most talked-about young coaches, and they absolutely need him.

The Rollercoaster Ride That Led to Milan

This guy's journey has been a wild one. Before his recent gig, Amorim was a hot commodity, tearing it up at Sporting. He did the unthinkable there, ending the club's 19-year wait for a league title in the 2020-21 season, and then he went and won it again in 2023-24! Talk about a championship pedigree, right? But then came the move to Manchester United in November 2024, after they apparently rejected his plea to wait until the end of the season. His 14 months at Old Trafford? The source calls them "torrid," and the numbers kinda back it up: 24 wins and 21 losses in 63 matches. Not exactly the dominant run you'd expect from a coach who broke a 19-year curse.

AC Milan's Bold Move and the Fallout for United

So, why is Milan so hyped? Well, they just sacked Massimiliano Allegri after what was described as a "catastrophic run of form" that actually made them miss out on Champions League qualification. Ouch. They need a spark, and Amorim is exactly that. Here's where it gets even crazier: reports out of Italy say Amorim is foregoing an entire year's pay that Manchester United still owed him after his dismissal in January. United had previously stated that his exit, along with his coaching staff, could cost them up to a staggering £15.9 million! It's wild to think that even after he's gone, the financial implications are still a question mark for their autumn financial results. Last month, Amorim had even distanced himself from the Benfica vacancy when Jose Mourinho headed to Real Madrid, showing he was set on this next big move.

This is a fresh start for Amorim and a massive statement from AC Milan. His first game in charge will be a pre-season clash at Celtic on July 25, setting the stage. And get this for irony: they wrap up their pre-season campaign on August 15 against none other than Manchester United in Wroclaw! Talk about a reunion! You know that one's gonna be spicy. Milan fans are absolutely buzzing for what he can bring, hoping he can rekindle that title-winning magic and get them back into the European elite. We'll be watching closely to see if he can turn things around in the Emerald City of Italy!
