The 7 Felonies Filed After Tragedy Struck Former Penn State Long Snapper Kyle Vasey

Alright, 12s, usually we’re talking about the Hawks or the M’s here, but sometimes, life just hits different. And man, did it ever drop a bomb on the Penn State community this past week. We just heard the absolutely gut-wrenching news: former Penn State long snapper Kyle Vasey was severely injured, and his fiancée, Corinne More, was tragically killed in a hit-and-run incident down in Colorado on June 1. Seriously, my heart just sank reading that. CBS News reported it, and a man is facing seven felonies in connection with this unthinkable event. Seven felonies! It’s just so hard to process.

More Heartache for the Penn State Community

And if that wasn't enough to shake things up, the community also reeled from other devastating news. Just days before, a Penn State student was shot and killed outside their home in Philadelphia early Saturday morning. This is real-life stuff, folks, not just game stats. On top of that, the local crime blotter from June 1 to June 7 reported everything from vehicle crashes to suspicious activity and even theft of university property. It's a heavy week, and you just gotta feel for everyone connected to State College right now. Our thoughts are with them, no doubt.

Campus Life Carries On, Sort Of

Amidst all this, life on campus continues, and the Daily Collegian, run by managing editor Mia Debelevich, is even accepting summer candidacy applications. They're also talking about the smaller, local Pride festival happening, quite a contrast to the million-plus crowds in places like NYC. And get this, they're already looking ahead to College Football 27, dropping staff predictions on which Penn State players will be highest-rated. Seriously? After everything else? It's wild to think about, but football always finds a way to be part of the conversation. Plus, there was a profile on F Maddy Christian from the women's hockey team, heading into her first Frozen Four appearance. Good for her, but man, the contrast in news is just jarring. It’s a tough week for the Penn State community, no doubt about it. While we usually look ahead to the next game for our teams, sometimes, you just gotta step back and acknowledge what’s happening off the field. What’s at stake here is more than a win or loss; it’s about the well-being of a whole community. Stay strong, Penn State.
