WALLA WALLA, WA - The roar of the home crowd at Blue Devil Stadium Tuesday night was deafening as the Walla Walla High School boys soccer team delivered a spectacular performance, dominating the North Thurston Rams with a commanding 4-0 victory in the opening round of the WIAA Class 3A state playoffs on May 19, 2026. This wasn't just a win, it was a statement, showcasing the immense talent and unwavering dedication of these young athletes from Eastern Washington.

From the first whistle, the Blue Devils controlled the pace, demonstrating why they are a formidable force in the 3A classification. The energy and precision displayed by the Walla Walla squad left North Thurston scrambling to keep up, setting an electrifying tone for their state championship aspirations. The boys have poured their hearts into this season, and their hard work truly shone under the lights.

Blue Devils' Relentless Offensive Onslaught

The Walla Walla offense was a force of nature, constantly pressing the Rams' defense and creating numerous scoring opportunities. Junior Damian Castruita and freshman Isaiah Betancourt were relentless, applying immense pressure on North Thurston junior Royce Rodriguez and his backline from the outset. Their aggressive play and intelligent runs opened up spaces that the Blue Devils expertly exploited. Sophomore Cristian Tapia was instrumental in the midfield, dictating play and delivering pinpoint passes that kept the Rams on their heels.

Junior Mavrec Mills consistently delivered dangerous balls across the field, putting the North Thurston defense under constant duress. The teamwork was palpable, with every player contributing to the offensive surge. The four goals scored were a testament to their collective skill and strategic execution, highlighting their ability to convert chances into points when it matters most. Senior Felix Hernandez Saldana was seen celebrating passionately with his teammates and the home crowd after the final whistle, embodying the sheer joy and relief of a job well done in the biggest moments of the season.

Defensive Wall and Goalkeeper's Brilliance

While the offense was dazzling, the defensive effort from Walla Walla was equally impressive, securing a crucial clean sheet. Sophomore goalkeeper Finnegan Martin was a rock in net, displaying incredible composure and making key saves to ensure North Thurston remained scoreless. Martin's ability to keep a clean sheet in a state playoff game speaks volumes about his talent and the defensive organization of the entire team.

The backline, along with the tireless work of players like Jaykob Lopez who pressed high up the field, effectively neutralized any threats from the Rams. Their coordinated efforts limited North Thurston's chances, allowing Martin to command his box with confidence. This complete performance, excelling on both ends of the pitch, is a hallmark of a team ready to make a deep run in the state tournament.

Walla Walla's dominant start sends a clear message to the rest of the Class 3A field: they are here to compete, and they are here to win. The passion and dedication of these Washington State prep athletes are truly inspiring. The Blue Devils will now look to carry this momentum into their next WIAA state playoff match, with their eyes firmly set on bringing home a state championship title. The journey continues, and the excitement for Walla Walla boys soccer is only just beginning.
