Why The Seattle Mariners Are Only Wearing Their Nike City Connect Uniforms

Once the Seattle Mariners blew a 10-game lead in the AL West, a lot of people were ready to write them off for the rest of the year. To be fair, I was one of those people, I wrote them off multiple times this year. Just a few weeks ago, after losing a lot of games to the Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Angels, and Oakland Athletics, the season felt pretty much over.

At that time the Mariners were just at a 5.4% chance to make the MLB postseason according to ESPN. That number hasn't changed drastically, but it has changed. After the Mariners won THREE in a row against the Texas Rangers, they are now sitting at a 10.4% chance to make the playoffs.

All three games they won against the Rangers, they were wearing their Nike City Connect uniforms, which they usually only wear on Friday. After the win on Friday, they wore them Saturday for good luck, and did the same on Sunday after another win. The Mariners are letting the hot streak in these uniforms ride, and the are now wearing them again on Tuesday in their opener against the New York Yankees.

The Mariners are a staggering 15-1 while wearing them, and are hoping to go 16-1 with a big win against the Yankees.

Now the Mariners are sitting 4 games back of the Houston Astros for 1st place in the AL West, and they have 3 games against them coming soon. Yet, they still have an even better chance for the last Wild Card spot, as they sit only 2 games back.

Regardless of how many games back they are, they need to win, and win big these last 12 games. We might have to see something as crazy as 11-1, or 10-2 to have a chance at the playoffs.

Let's hope they can sweep the New York Yankees and give themselves an even more realistic chance to make the playoff by just winning games. All that matter right now is not scoreboard watching, it's just winning. Control your own destiny.
