12 Home Runs in Two Games and Nobody in MLB Is Ready For It

Alright, Emerald City, you gotta see what just went down in Vegas. The Athletics, yeah, THOSE Athletics, just put on an absolute BOMBSHELL display of power that's got the whole league scratching their heads. We're talking 12 home runs, TWELVE, in just two games at this new Las Vegas Ballpark. That's not just a good weekend at the plate, folks, that's tying a franchise record that's almost 30 years old! The A's are quickly figuring out this Vegas Ballpark is built different, and their "built-to-slug" lineup is just going off.

The Las Vegas Power Surge is Real

After mashing seven dingers in their opener against the Brewers, the A's came back from a wild extra-inning loss to bash another five homers in Tuesday night's 7-5 victory. Five homers! That brings their two-game total to a mind-blowing 12, matching a franchise record not seen since way back in June 1996. Talk about a power surge! Nick Kurtz, the reigning AL Rookie of the Year, is absolutely on fire, slugging his 15th homer of the year, a solo shot in the first, making it his fourth over the last three days. He even had a two-homer game on Monday. And Tyler Soderstrom? Dude's right there with him, crushing his 11th of the season, a two-run blast in the fifth, his third in two days. Jonah Heim and Zack Gelof both went deep for the second straight night too, both solo shots. But get this, A's No. 5 prospect Henry Bolte joined the party for the first time in his Major League career, pulverizing a 1-1 changeup for a two-run laser that nearly cleared the entire stadium. The dude was called up May 12 and joked his first big-league homer would be in Vegas, and he actually pulled it off. Wild!

Pitchers Battling in a Bomber's Paradise

Look, when you're hitting like this, you gotta pick up your pitchers, right? Kurtz pretty much said it best, "It’s really a battle of who can string together big innings and get more zeros... You put the ball in the air, there’s a good chance it could go. The pitchers have a really hard job this week, so as an offense, we have to pick them up." And they did, because their pitching staff had their work cut out for them. J.T. Ginn, who's been lights out with a 1.49 ERA over his last six starts, had to adjust. He gutted out 5 2/3 innings, giving up five runs, which Ginn admitted "looks like a lot," but felt like he "did his job" given the wild environment. Seriously, shoutout to Elvis Alvarado and Mason Barnett. Those guys, the only two relievers not used the night before, combined for a perfect 3 1/3 innings of relief with EIGHT strikeouts. Manager Mark Kotsay said Alvarado was "electric" and Barnett was the "freshest arm" and they "stepped up and got it done." Big time stuff from those guys to keep that game from going totally off the rails. So, the A's are in Vegas for six games, and they've already tied a franchise record in the first two. With that kind of power display, you just know every team rolling into that ballpark is gonna be looking to hit. It's gonna be fascinating to see how the rest of this series plays out, especially with the ball flying like it is. This early in the season, you gotta pay attention when a team just explodes like this. It's a reminder that anything can happen in baseball, especially when the ball decides it wants to fly. Better keep your eyes peeled!
