38 Years, One Championship: Richland High's Legendary Coach Calls It a Career

After nearly four decades leading the Richland High School boys basketball program, the longtime coach is hanging it up. And he's doing it on top, capping his career with the school's first state championship.

That's the kind of ending every coach dreams about. Thirty-eight years is a long time to pour everything into one program, and the fact that it culminated in a title run says everything about what this coach built in Richland.

A Legacy Built Over Nearly Four Decades

Consistency. Stability. Winning culture. That's what you build when you stick with one school for 38 years. While other coaches chase bigger jobs or burnout after a decade, this guy stayed put and kept competing night after night, season after season.

The basketball world at T-Mobile Park's level of commitment is rare. Most coaches move on long before they hit the 30-year mark. But this Richland program did it differently, and the program is better for it.

The Perfect Final Chapter

What makes this retirement even sweeter is the timing. This wasn't a coach limping out after a tough year or fading into obscurity. The Richland boys basketball team won the state championship this season, capping off his tenure with the hardware to prove it all worked.

That's the dream retirement. Not "thanks for your service" and a handshake. It's "we just won it all" and riding off into the sunset knowing you left the program in the best possible place.

Richland High School boys basketball will move forward, but they're losing someone who defined what that program is. Thirty-eight years is a lifetime in coaching. This guy earned his rest.
