45 Points From Jalen Brunson in the Finals Closer, and He Stands Alone With Michael Jordan

Holy cow, you guys, did you see what Jalen Brunson just did?! Seriously, if you weren't watching Game 5 of the NBA Finals, you missed an absolute all-time performance, a moment for the history books. Brunson went full superhero mode for the New York Knicks, dropping a mind-blowing 45 points to clinch the championship. Forty-five points! And get this, it wasn't just any 45 points, he actually just cemented himself in a club so exclusive, it only had one other member: Michael freaking Jordan. Are you kidding me?!

Captain Clutch Delivers Again

Brunson was nothing short of phenomenal out there. Yeah, okay, he had some moments earlier in the series where his shots weren't quite falling, a bit of a struggle with efficiency, but when the bright lights were on, when it mattered most, he ALWAYS showed up. And nowhere was that more evident than in this championship-clinching game. He earned that "Captain Clutch" nickname, especially in the fourth quarter against the San Antonio Spurs. The dude poured in 15 of his 45 points in that final frame, just completely taking over to seal the deal. That's the kind of performance legends are made of, pure grit and determination.

Standing Next to Greatness

Think about it, across the entire history of the NBA, only a handful of players ever reach icon status. Michael Jordan, the Chicago Bulls legend with six rings in six tries, was always the benchmark. And for guards, he was the *only* one to ever score 45 points in a title-clinching performance. Until now. Brunson just stomped his way into that impossibly exclusive group. We've seen big men do it before, sure, guys like Giannis Antetokounmpo in 2021, and they've got an obvious size advantage. But for a guard, for a "smaller" player like Brunson to hit that mark and secure the championship? That deserves all the praise in the world. He's not just a great guard, he's building an unmatched legacy in New York, right up there with names like Walt "Clyde" Frazier and Willis Reed. This Finals run is etched forever in his story. What a season for Brunson, truly incredible stuff. He didn't just grab a championship; he deservedly lifted the Finals MVP trophy after that monstrous 45-point outing. That record alongside his MVP award? That's all the proof you need when talking about him being one of the best guards in the league. Now, all that's left is to watch those passionate Knicks fans celebrate their first title in 53 years, and we'll be here for every moment of that championship parade in New York! What a run, man. What a run!
