Anze Kopitar Named Lady Byng Finalist: The King's Third Nod for the NHL's Classiest Player Award

The NHL made it official this morning, and Anze Kopitar is back in the conversation for one of hockey's most prestigious individual honors. The Kings forward has been selected as a finalist for the 2026 Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, joining an elite group of players recognized for exceptional skill combined with sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct on the ice.

This isn't Kopitar's first dance with Lady Byng recognition either. The longtime Kings captain has won the award three times in his career, cementing his reputation as one of the most respected two-way players in the league. For a guy who's been the face of the franchise for over a decade, accolades like this feel earned. When you put together the kind of consistency Kopitar brings night after night, the NHL takes notice.

The King of Kings Keeps Adding to His Legacy

What makes this nomination stick out is the timing. Kopitar continues to be a driving force for the Kings even as the team navigates its own challenges and roster changes. Whether it's his on-ice performance or the way he conducts himself as a leader, the guy embodies what the Lady Byng Award is all about. You don't win that award three times by accident. It's a reflection of how he plays the game and who he is as a person.

The Kings organization has plenty of reasons to be proud of their captain. In an era where the league has seen massive roster turnover and coaching changes, Kopitar remains a constant. He's the kind of player younger guys look up to, not just for his skill but for how he represents the franchise.

Recognition in a Competitive Year

Being named a finalist for any major NHL award is a big deal. The Lady Byng specifically celebrates players who excel at the highest level while maintaining the integrity and respect the game demands. Kopitar's track record speaks for itself, and this nomination is another chapter in what's been an incredible career in Los Angeles.

The Kings fan base has plenty to feel good about when it comes to their captain. Awards and accolades will keep coming as long as Kopitar keeps playing the brand of hockey that's made him a three-time Lady Byng winner.
