Arvell Reese Went From a 0.4 GPA to a 3.7 at Ohio State, and the Giants Just Made Him Their 5th Overall Pick

The New York Giants made a statement with their first-round selection, and it wasn't just about football talent. Arvell Reese, the linebacker out of Ohio State, became the 5th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, but his real story starts way before draft night.

We're talking about a kid who walked into high school with a 0.4 GPA and completely transformed his academic life. By the time he left Ohio State, Reese was sitting at a 3.7 GPA. That's the kind of turnaround that tells you everything about his character, his work ethic, and his ability to dominate once he sets his mind to something.

The Film Doesn't Lie

On the field, Reese's tape is just as impressive as his classroom redemption arc. His highlights from Ohio State show exactly what Giants head coach John Harbaugh and GM Joe Schoen were looking for in their linebacker room. Reese brings the physicality and the film study that Harbaugh's defensive system demands. This is a kid who learned how to prepare at the highest level, both academically and athletically.

The Giants clearly believe in his potential to make an immediate impact. Taking a linebacker 5th overall is a bold move, but Reese's entire journey from that terrible high school GPA to becoming a first-round NFL pick suggests he's exactly the kind of competitor who thrives under pressure and high expectations.

What's Next

Giants fans are about to see what a fully committed, dialed-in Arvell Reese can do at the professional level. This is a player who's already proven he can transform himself when it matters most. Now he gets to do it on the biggest stage in football.
