Ashton Daniels Wins Florida State's QB Battle and Will Start Week 1

Ashton Daniels has won the starting quarterback competition at Florida State and will take the field when the Seminoles open their season against New Mexico State on August 28, 2026. The transfer QB beat out the competition in what was clearly a tight battle during spring, and now he gets the keys to the offense right out of the gate.

The Competition Was Real

This wasn't handed to Daniels. Florida State clearly put him through the full evaluation process, which means the coaching staff saw enough to trust him as their Week 1 starter. For a transfer coming in, winning that kind of competition early says something about what he showed on the field during practice and preparation. The Seminoles could have easily gone another direction, but Daniels separated himself when it counted.

What's Next for FSU

Now comes the real test. Daniels gets his debut against New Mexico State, which gives him a chance to settle in against a non-conference opponent before things get tougher. This is his moment to prove he can execute the offense and lead the Seminoles consistently. One solid performance can build confidence for both him and the team heading into the season.

Watch Daniels when Florida State kicks off on August 28. This is the start of something for the Seminoles, and their offense runs through whatever he can deliver from the pocket.
