The Seattle Mariners have had a disappointing second half a season. What looked like a promising season has turned into vast disappointment. A 10 game lead in the AL West has turned into now being down 4.5 games behind the AL West leading Houston Astros.
AL West Standings since June 18th:
— Jage (@thejagepage) August 21, 2024
Astros: 35-17 (--)
Athletics: 27-24 (7.5 GB)
Angels: 25-28 (10.5 GB)
Rangers: 25-29 (11 GB)#Mariners: 20-32 (15 GB)
Despite that, there are two players who have not been disappointing and that's Logan Gilbert and Cal Raleigh. And according to MLB.com they are both predicted to be part of the All-MLB second team. And if you aren't familiar with All-MLB teams, well that's because this new honor has only been given since 2019. Raleigh despite batting only .212 has provided the Mariners with the slugging they need with his 27 Home Runs while playing excellent defense behind the plate. And Logan Gilbert somehow has only a 7-9 record has been stellar with a 2.96 ERA which is good for 5th in MLB and his 0.88 WHIP leads all of Major League Baseball. So despite an absolutely horrific second half of the season, both Raleigh and Gilbert deserve a tip of our cap for their excellence this season.
