Cal Raleigh Becomes First Seattle Mariners Player in History To Win Platinum Glove Award

The heart of the Seattle Mariners, the fan-favorite, the legend, Big Dumper... Cal Raleigh. No one we would want to see do this other than him. Not only did he now cement himself as the best defensive catcher in the entire MLB, he also had the most homers for anyone at the position.

The fourth-year Seattle Mariners catcher continued to add to his long list of 2024 accomplishments on Friday.

Raleigh's Platinum Glove Award is the first in Seattle history. It came just five days after Raleigh earned the first Gold Glove of his career and became the first catcher in franchise history to earn the prestigious honor.

Raleigh caught more innings than any catcher in the majors this season (1,122) and co-led the league in runners caught stealing (32) and had a catcher ERA of 3.29. He also led all AL catchers in fWAR (5.4) and bWAR (4.6).

Raleigh is the third catcher to win the Platinum Glove since the award was introduced in 2011. The other two were St. Louis Cardinals backstop Yadier Molina (2011-12; 2014-15) and the New York Yankees' Jose Trevino (2022).

Let's not forget, only two players in the entire MLB get this award, one in the AL, and one in the NL. Unlike the Gold Glove where this is one at each position in each league.

This accomplishment by Cal Raleigh is special, it might be a long time before we see someone else in Mariners history get this award.

Now, let's hope the Mariners finally PAY Cal Raleigh before it's too late...
