This might not be the extension Seattle Mariners fans were looking for with star catcher Cal Raleigh, but that might come in the near near future. The good news as of now is that the Mariners and Raleigh avoided arbitration and settled at $5,600,000 for this season.
Cal Raleigh had finished 12th in the American League MVP voting. Raleigh was a finalist for the American League Silver Slugger. He also won both the Gold Glove at catcher and the Platinum Glove in the American League.
There is more goods new with Cal Raleigh moving on from his agent Scott Boras this offseason. Boras does not like to do business with the Mariners, and we were all concerned that getting a deal done with him on the Cal Raleigh contract would have been difficult.
In the meantime, thankfully, Raleigh is on contract this season with the Mariners.
Raleigh is one of the best, if not the best, catchers in baseball, and he is only 28 years old going into this season. He could also have two more arbitrations moving forward until he is an unrestricted free agent in 2028, when he is 31 years old.

Glad it worked out. Currently slated as a free agent in 2028. pic.twitter.com/DWwz2kHJYz
Hopefully the Mariners and Raleigh can settle on a good long-term deal that is both good for him, and not an over-pay for a catcher. Otherwise, we could envision two more years of this, and then Cal Raleigh moving on in 2028.
