Chiefs Trading Up to Top 3 Pick With Arizona Cardinals in Early Draft Talks
Four days before the 2026 NFL draft kicks off, the Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly eyeing a massive trade up the board. According to reporting from Johnny Venerable, the Chiefs have engaged in trade talks with the Arizona Cardinals to acquire the No. 3 overall pick. If they pull the trigger, Kansas City could land a defensive game-changer and make a serious statement about their championship aspirations heading into next season.
Chiefs Ready to Make Another Splash
The Chiefs have already been active in the 2026 offseason. General manager Brett Veach made some serious moves in free agency, adding Super Bowl MVP running back Kenneth Walker III to the roster. Now, with the draft just around the corner, Kansas City is clearly not done tinkering with their roster. They're coming off a disappointing 6-11 record in 2025, so the front office is determined to bounce back in a big way.

The speculation is growing that this could actually happen. According to Venerable's reporting, trade talks with Arizona are real, and Kansas City has additional selections at No. 29, No. 40, and No. 74 to potentially package in a deal.
A Defensive Overhaul Takes Shape
If the Chiefs can land a defensive difference-maker at No. 3, they could walk out of the draft with a team capable of competing for a Super Bowl next year. That's the endgame here: add the right pieces early, build something special, and get back to the championship conversation.
The draft hasn't even started yet, but the Chiefs are already making waves. Keep your eye on this one.
