Cooper Ingle Is Mashing 1.403 OPS at Triple-A and Cleveland Can't Ignore Him Much Longer
Cleveland's catching situation is a mess right now, and a kid named Cooper Ingle might be the answer the Guardians didn't expect to find this soon. The fourth round pick from the 2023 amateur draft just went yard twice on Sunday for Triple-A Columbus, knocked in four runs, and he's putting up numbers that are hard to ignore: .357/.617/.786 through 13 games with four homers, 12 RBI, and 18 walks against just nine strikeouts. His OPS sits at a ridiculous 1.403. A promotion is coming soon. You can feel it.
Cleveland's Catching Crisis Is Real
Here's the thing: the AL Central-leading Cleveland Guardians have starting catcher Bo Naylor, and he's been a disaster at the plate. Through 15 games, Naylor is hitting .156/.224/.244. Yeah, those numbers should improve a bit because his .176 BABIP is unlucky, but let's be real. The guy is 26 years old and has never been a hitter. Last season he posted a .195/.282/.379 line across 414 plate appearances. In 2024? .201/.264/.350. Naylor is what he is, and what he is isn't good enough.

The backup is veteran Austin Hedges, who carries a career .186/.244/.313 line. David Fry can catch sometimes too, but that's basically it. Ingle is a left-handed hitter tearing it up at the Triple-A level, and fantasy managers in deeper formats should absolutely be paying attention. The window to grab him before he gets the call is closing fast. This kid is putting together the kind of stretch that gets you promoted.
Watch for the Guardians to make a move at catcher sooner rather than later. Ingle has earned his shot.
