Could The Seattle Mariners Sign Astros Free Agent Alex Bregman?

While I don't love to see that Houston Astros logo next to our Seattle Mariners logo, this one might have some actual backing. Houston Astros multiple-time champion (sort of), Alex Bregman, is one of the top free agents in this years MLB offseason.

A potential free agent fit for the Seattle Mariners is reportedly open to playing a different position as he tries to find his home for 2025 and beyond.
We are not sure if the Mariners are actively looking to replace Josh Rojas at 3B, but I think someone like Bregman might be an easy choice for them if it was the right price. Yet, another note is that Alex Bregman is reportedly open to switching to 2B or trying other positions.
As we all know, the Mariners have been on a search for a second baseman for the last six to seven seasons as Robinson Cano's time came to an end in Seattle. Last year it was Jorge Polanco, and they have already moved on. The Mariners have had a new second baseman EVERY year since cano was trading to the New York Mets.
Now, the Mariners are also actively looking at Korean 2B Kim Hye-seong, and they are one of the top destinations that might land him.
This does not mean if they land Kim, they won't go for Bregman still, but we all know this depends on two big things:
  1. How much will it cost?
  2. Is he just going to end up back on the Astros?

We do not know exactly what the answers to these questions are yet, but it's clear that it will be expensive, and the Astros are at least TRYING to sign Bregman back.

Some estimates online have Alex Bregman in the market for around $150 million to $180 million dollars, which we never know if the Mariners are willing to spend.
