Dillon Thienaman Runs a 4.3 and the Bears Just Got Their Safety Question Answered

The Bears walked into the draft with one clear need at safety, and they didn't mess around. With their first pick, Chicago landed Dillon Thienaman, and honestly, this guy stole the show. We're talking best dressed in the green room, Big Ten roots, the whole package. According to Jon Gruden, the Bears got the best safety in this draft class, period.

The Physical Tools Are Legit

Thienaman clocks in at a 4.3 forty, which is real speed for a guy who can line up anywhere on the field. He's got the versatility to play at the line of scrimmage when you need him, but he can also play centerfield and range the whole secondary. That's the kind of flexibility that screams NFL readiness. The Bears weren't just plugging a hole, they were bringing in someone who can impact the game multiple ways.

One Piece of the Puzzle Fixed

Now that safety is locked in, the Bears have some serious talent building at that position. Thienaman joins Bryant, Gordon, Johnson, and Stevenson in a secondary that's starting to look pretty solid. One position group is now addressed, which is huge for a defense trying to get competitive. Chicago still holds picks 57 and 60 in the second round, so there's still work to do. Left tackle and defensive line are still on the shopping list, but this is a great foundation to build from.

The Bears made a statement early in this draft. They saw what they needed, they identified the best guy available at that spot, and they pulled the trigger. That's how you start building something special.
