Dolphins Passed on Two Local Talents for Kadyn Proctor, and They're Standing Firm on It

Miami made a statement at pick 12 in the 2026 NFL Draft, and it's already got people talking. The Dolphins selected offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor from Alabama instead of safety C. Downs from Ohio State or edge rusher R. Bain Jr. from Miami, and the organization is making it crystal clear: they have zero regrets about this call.

The decision to go all in on Proctor over two highly touted prospects available on the board speaks volumes about what the Dolphins see in the Alabama tackle. Proctor isn't your typical plug-and-play offensive lineman prospect. He's rare, and Miami is owning that choice without apologies. When a franchise is willing to publicly defend passing over a hometown edge rusher like Bain Jr. (especially one drafted just four picks later at 15), you know they believe they grabbed something special.

The Case for Proctor Over the Alternatives

C. Downs went off the board at pick 11 to Ohio State, and R. Bain Jr. was snagged by Miami at pick 15. That's a narrow window, and the Dolphins used it to lock in their guy on the offensive line. The strategy here is clear: protect your quarterback and build from the trenches. In today's NFL, that's not a controversial take, but passing on a local edge rusher to do it certainly raises eyebrows in South Florida.

What's Next for Miami

The Dolphins are betting that Proctor's ceiling is high enough to justify the early investment in offensive lineman depth and quality. Whether he becomes the franchise cornerstone on the line will define this draft class for Miami. For now, the organization is standing by its conviction, and that confidence is impossible to ignore.
