Dominique Malonga Is Cleared and Ready to Suit Up for the Storm This Season
The wait is over. Dominique Malonga, the Seattle Storm's No. 2 overall pick from the 2025 WNBA draft, got the green light from FIBA on Wednesday to play this season. The federation granted her the letter of clearance, officially making her eligible to take the court in a Storm uniform.
This has been a messy situation. Malonga signed a three-year deal with Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahçe in the summer of 2025, but months later the club announced she "unilaterally terminated" the contract. The whole thing created real uncertainty about whether she'd actually get released to play in the WNBA this year. But here's the thing that helped everything work out: her original contract with Fenerbahçe included language that allowed her to play in the WNBA during the offseason, according to a source. That clause was crucial for FIBA to sign off on her eligibility.

The clearance comes at the perfect moment for Seattle. Fenerbahçe just wrapped up their season on Sunday, winning the EuroLeague championship. With that in the rearview, there's no conflict anymore. The Storm's first preseason game is this Saturday, and the real season kicks off May 8. Malonga won't miss any time getting acclimated to the team.
Storm fans have been waiting to see what the No. 2 pick can do at the professional level. Now they finally will.
