Eastside Catholic Baseball Is Fighting, But District Play Is Getting Tougher

The Eastside Catholic Crusaders are sitting at 25-26 overall and 8-5 in district play, currently holding down fourth place in their league. It's been a rollercoaster for the Sammamish squad as we head into the final stretches of the season, with some big wins mixed in with some painful losses that remind you how competitive Washington high school baseball really is.

The Ups and Downs of April

The Crusaders have had their moments lately. On April 27, Eastside Catholic absolutely hammered West Seattle 9-1, rolling to a "wins going away" kind of performance. The bats were alive that day, posting a .370 batting average with a .486 on base percentage. That's the kind of offensive explosion that can carry a team.

But baseball is a game of momentum, and it doesn't last long. Just three days later on April 30, the Crusaders have a district matchup coming up against Roosevelt, and they'll be looking to bounce back after dropping a tough one to Ingraham 1-7 on April 28. That loss stung, and it showed in the numbers: .160 batting average, .250 OBP. When your offense disappears like that, you're not winning ballgames.

Where Eastside Catholic Stands

Sitting fourth in district with an 8-5 record, the Crusaders still have time to climb the standings. They're ranked 111th in Washington, which tells you there's serious competition across the state. The April schedule has been unforgiving, but that's also the reality of playoff baseball in Washington. Every team left standing has talented rosters and hungry coaches.

Roosevelt awaits on April 30 at 4:00pm. It's a chance to get back on track and prove that the West Seattle performance wasn't a one-game fluke.
