Elle Ladine and Two Others Out: What the Storm's Roster Moves Mean Right Now

The Seattle Storm made their first cuts of the offseason Thursday, waiving guards Elle Ladine and Jalyn Brown plus forward Beatrice Mompremier. The moves came the day after the team wrapped up a quick two-game preseason run, and they signal how the Storm are shaping their roster heading into the regular season.

Ladine's Shot Doesn't Last

Ladine was the most notable name on the waiver list for Seattle fans. The undrafted rookie made waves at UW, helping the Huskies reach back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in the past two seasons. But her time with the Storm was brief. In the team's 78-76 loss to Golden State, she logged five minutes, 39 seconds and scored one point. Three days later against the expansion Portland Fire, she played six minutes, 23 seconds, hitting one of her two 3-point attempts while also grabbing a rebound and a steal. It wasn't enough to stick.

Brown and Mompremier Also Cut

Brown, an undrafted rookie from Michigan State, appeared in just one preseason game. She finished scoreless but pulled down four rebounds and had an assist against Portland. Mompremier, a 2020 draft pick originally signed by the Los Angeles Sparks out of Miami, barely saw the court. She played just 2:18 against Portland and hadn't appeared in the WNBA since 2022 with the Atlanta Dream.

The Real Season Starts Next Week

The Storm have one week to finalize their roster before the real work begins. Seattle opens the WNBA regular season on Friday, May 8 at 7 p.m. at Climate Pledge Arena, hosting the Golden State Valkyries in a matchup that will air on ION. This is when it actually matters.
