Foss High School Stabbing Left Students Needing Surgery, Court Records Reveal

A fight between students at Foss High School in Tacoma escalated into something far more serious Thursday when a 16-year-old pulled a knife. Six people ended up in the hospital, including a security guard. Two of those students needed surgery to recover from their wounds.

The Injuries Tell the Story

One student had to have a portion of his lung removed because of the stabbing. Another student sustained wounds on his arm that required surgical repair. The violence was brutal enough that it sent half a dozen people to medical care, a stark reminder of how quickly a schoolyard conflict can turn life-threatening.

What started as a fight between students got stopped by school staff who were trying to break things up. But by then, the damage was already done.

The Arrest and What Comes Next

The 16-year-old suspected of doing the stabbing was arrested and booked on five counts of first-degree assault, according to Tacoma police spokesperson Shelbie Boyd. He's being held at Remann Hall Pierce County Juvenile Detention Center. Despite his involvement in the stabbing, the suspect suffered only minor injuries during the incident.

Court documents filed in connection with the case now reveal the full extent of the injuries, showing just how serious the consequences of that moment on Thursday really were. One student will carry the physical reminder of that day for the rest of his life. Another will have scars from wounds that needed an operating room to repair.
