Garrett Crochet's Shoulder Just Blew Up Boston's Season and Nobody Saw It Coming

The Boston Red Sox placed ace Garrett Crochet on the injured list with shoulder inflammation, and just like that, their early season momentum hit a wall. This is the kind of news that changes everything when your ace goes down before May even gets rolling.

The Hit Boston Didn't See Coming

Crochet was supposed to be the anchor of Boston's rotation coming into 2026. Instead, the Red Sox are now dealing with shoulder inflammation that's serious enough to warrant an IL placement. It's a gut punch for a team that needs to stay healthy if they want to compete early in the season. The Red Sox are sitting at 12-19, and losing your ace to a shoulder issue this early is the last thing you want when you're already struggling.

What This Means for Boston Going Forward

The timing couldn't be worse. The Red Sox are already dealing with a rough start to the year, and now they have to figure out their rotation without one of their best arms. Crochet's shoulder problems aren't something you can rush back from either. These things linger if you're not careful, and the Red Sox front office knows that better than anyone.

Manager Alex Cora sent an email expressing confidence in the team's future despite the setback, but words only go so far when your ace is heading to the injured list. The Red Sox need to find answers fast, whether that's depth in the rotation or waiting for Crochet to get healthy. Either way, May is going to look a lot different than Boston expected just a few days ago.
