Goncalves Ends It in OT and Now Lightning and Canadiens Play Winner-Take-All Tonight

The Lightning just forced Game 7 in Montreal, and honestly, this first round has been an absolute war. Goncalves buried the overtime winner to keep Tampa Bay alive, and now both teams get one more shot to punch their ticket to the second round. This is playoff hockey at its finest, the kind of sudden death nobody saw coming when these teams started this series.

Vasilevskiy Was Unreal When It Mattered Most

Tampa's goalie turned in a 30-save shutout to force the extra frame, which tells you everything about how tight this matchup has been. When you're playing Game 6 in a series that could go either way, your goalie has to be the guy, and Vasilevskiy absolutely was. He stood on his head and gave his team the chance to live another day.

The First Round Has Been Brutal Across the Board

Lightning-Canadiens isn't the only series going the distance. The Sabres just ended their drought by eliminating the Bruins in Game 6, winning their first playoff series since 2006-07. Over in the West, the Ducks knocked off the Oilers, and Vegas took down Utah with Marner scoring twice in Game 6, including a power play goal. The Wild beat the Avalanche. This first round has been one of the closest in NHL history, and teams are leaving everything on the ice.

Game 7 Is Tonight and Everything Changes

The winner of Lightning-Canadiens advances to face whoever wins out of the other matchups still going. The Sabres are waiting in the second round, hungry after finally breaking through. The Flyers and Hurricanes are opening the second round tonight. This is the moment where seasons end or dreams stay alive, and there's no tomorrow. One game. One shot. That's playoff hockey.
