Adalyne Montiel Secured Her Fourth Title, and Toppenish's Fifth Straight Championship Will Shock Washington

WOAH, you guys SEE what just went down at the Tacoma Dome this past Saturday? Forget what you thought you knew about high school wrestling in the Emerald City, because the Mat Classic XXXVII dropped some absolute BOMBSHELLS. Seriously, if you weren't watching, you missed out big time. Adalyne Montiel from Toppenish wasn't just good, she pulled off something truly legendary, and her whole squad is riding a wave no one expected this deep!

Toppenish Ran the Tacoma Dome, Again

Let's kick things off with Toppenish, because man, they just DOMINATED. Adalyne Montiel, oh my gosh, she went and snagged her FOURTH individual title at Mat Classic XXXVII! You read that right, FOUR. Talk about making history right here in Washington. And get this, her incredible win propelled the Toppenish girls to their FIFTH straight team championship! Five years in a row, folks. That's not just a run, that's a dynasty being built right before our eyes in the Tacoma Dome. It had to feel different, celebrating that kind of milestone. But wait, there's more Toppenish greatness. Justyce Zuniga, for the Toppenish boys, also nabbed his FOURTH individual title! This dude's career has been built on a fast pace nobody could match. He literally slowed down only in the final minute of his Saturday match. With that kind of talent, it’s no surprise the Toppenish boys powered their way to a second-place finish in the 2A classification. Two four-time champs from the same school in one Mat Classic? That's just wild, and it tells you everything about the caliber of wrestling coming out of Toppenish.

Wapato and Granger Bring the Heat

Now, Toppenish wasn't the only team lighting up the mats. The Wapato boys came in strong and once again reigned inside the circles, defending their 1A team title! They leaned hard on their depth to make it happen, proving that a solid squad from top to bottom can get it done. And shoutout to Zillah, who finished as the runner-up in 1A, with three individual winners of their own! That's a huge showing, coming so close to taking the top spot. Over in the 2B category, the Granger boys clinched the team title, but man, it was tight! They narrowly edged out the competition, claiming a pair of individual titles that made all the difference. And don't sleep on the Granger girls, who secured a runner-up finish in the 1A/2B class. Talk about making statements: Gabrielle Berger went out in style with a repeat title, Sonia Mendoza finally grabbed the title she'd been chasing for four years, and freshman Vanessa Torres? She just launched her bid for the rarest of all prizes, likely setting her sights on a four-peat herself! The future of Washington wrestling looks absolutely electric with these athletes. So what does all this mean? It means the talent in Washington high school wrestling is absolutely insane. We saw history made, repeat champions cemented their legacies, and fresh faces started their own journeys to greatness. The Tacoma Dome was buzzing, and honestly, you gotta be excited for what these kids will do next year. Get ready, because the Mat Classic is never boring!
