Denver's Betting on Youth at Tight End and Justin Joly Could Be Their Answer

The Denver Broncos are rolling the dice on a tight end room that blends young talent with veteran experience, and they're banking on it paying off in 2026. After breaking down film and crunching numbers this offseason, the organization made a calculated move to unlock production at a position that needs a boost.

The Move They Made

Fifth-round pick Justin Joly is positioned to get immediate playing time as Denver's "move" tight end. The Broncos clearly see something in the combination of youth and veteran presence that could shift the needle at the position. It's not a marquee splash, but it's the kind of low-risk, high-upside approach that could pay dividends if Joly produces early.

Why This Matters Right Now

Tight end production has been a soft spot for the Broncos, and addressing it in the draft rather than through a big free agency signing tells you something about how the front office views the market and their own internal options. By investing draft capital here and counting on Joly to step in immediately, Denver is hoping their young talent can develop while leaning on whatever veteran experience they have in the room to anchor things.

The question now is whether this youth and veteran mix actually clicks. Joly getting real snaps early in his rookie year suggests the Broncos aren't planning to redshirt him. They need production now, not promises for later. If he can produce as a receiving threat out of the slot and in the passing game, this could end up being one of those steals that makes the whole roster stronger.

Looking Ahead

The 2026 season will tell us whether Denver's educated bet on tight end production was genius or a miss. All eyes will be on Joly to see if he can actually deliver on that immediate playing time opportunity.
