Shane Wright Could Be the Center the Flyers Need, and the Kraken Might Listen

The Philadelphia Flyers are going to be busy this summer, and they know exactly what they're missing: a center who can actually produce. Enter Seattle Kraken forward Shane Wright, a kid with all the tools who just hasn't quite figured it out in the NHL yet. Here's the thing: he's only 22 years old, and the Flyers should seriously kick the tires on landing him.

Wright Has the Skills, Just Needs the Right Fit

This season, Wright appeared in 74 games with the Kraken, tallying 12 goals, 15 assists, and 27 points. It's not exactly jumping off the page, but look back one year and the picture gets more interesting. During the 2024-25 season, Wright set career highs with 19 goals, 25 assists, and 44 points across 79 games. That's the kind of offensive promise that makes you believe he's got something left to unlock.

The problem? He hasn't been able to break out with Seattle. Sometimes a young player just needs a change of scenery, a new system, and a team that believes in him. Trevor Zegras proved that this season when a fresh start helped him hit a new level. Wright could be the same story.

Why This Makes Sense for Philadelphia

The Flyers took a nice step forward this season and look poised to make moves. One glaring weakness on their roster is at center. If the Flyers could acquire Wright and get him into the right situation, he's got the potential to become a solid piece of their top six down the line. The risk is minimal considering his age and the fact that he's already shown he can put up points at the NHL level.

Shane Wright should absolutely be on Philadelphia's radar this off-season. The Kraken have plenty of talent up the middle, and if Wright can't find his groove in Seattle, moving him could make sense for both sides. For the Flyers, it's worth the gamble.
