Hurricanes and Flyers Are Playing Game 1 on Saturday and the Eastern Conference Semifinals Start Now
The NHL just locked in the first second-round matchup and it's going to be a heavyweight fight. The Carolina Hurricanes and Philadelphia Flyers will drop the puck on Saturday, May 2, at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT in Raleigh, North Carolina. Game 1 is finally here, and these two teams have already shown they know how to get under each other's skin.
How We Got Here
The Hurricanes came in hot, sweeping the Ottawa Senators to punch their ticket to Round 2. The Flyers had a tougher road but got it done on Wednesday, taking down the Pittsburgh Penguins in six games. That's the Flyers' first series win since 2020, and they'll carry that momentum into Raleigh. These teams have already met this season too. Back in the regular season's final stretch, Philadelphia beat Carolina in a shootout to lock down their playoff spot. So yeah, there's some history here already.

All the second-round games will air on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+. The full playoff schedule for the rest of Round 2 will drop later, but right now we know Game 1 goes Saturday night. Meanwhile, three other first-round series are still grinding it out. The Tampa Bay Lightning face the Montreal Canadiens, and the Boston Bruins are battling the Buffalo Sabres. Both series head to Game 6 on Friday night before we see who joins Carolina and Philadelphia in the next round.
Saturday night is the moment we've all been waiting for. Eastern Conference semifinals are no joke, and the Hurricanes and Flyers are about to remind everyone what playoff hockey looks like.
