Ildemaro Vargas Just Hit in 27 Straight Games and Broke a Venezuelan Record Nobody's Talking About

The Arizona Diamondbacks' infielder did something this week that doesn't happen often in baseball. Ildemaro Vargas extended his hit streak to 27 games, setting a new mark for Venezuelan-born players in MLB history. That's a massive achievement that deserves way more attention than it's getting right now.

A Streak for the Record Books

Vargas has been absolutely locked in at the plate. Getting a hit in 27 consecutive games is the kind of thing that makes scouts and statisticians sit up and take notice. For a Venezuelan player, this is historic. It's the kind of streak that defines a season and reminds everyone why consistency at the plate matters so much in this sport.

What This Means for the D-backs

Arizona is in the thick of things early in May, and having a guy who's this hot in the lineup gives them a legitimate spark. Vargas has become the kind of player you build around when you're trying to string together wins. The Diamondbacks know they've got something special happening right now with their infielder firing on all cylinders.

This streak doesn't come around often. For Vargas and for Venezuela as a baseball nation, it's a point of pride. The next time the D-backs take the field, all eyes will be on whether he can keep this thing going. That's the kind of narrative that makes baseball fun.
