Jalen Brunson Finally Solved Atlanta's Defense and the Knicks Are One Win Away

Jalen Brunson came absolutely alive when the Knicks needed him most. After struggling against the Hawks defense all series long, Brunson exploded for 39 points in Game 5, leading New York to a 126-97 demolition in Atlanta. The Knicks are now up 3-2 in the series, one win away from moving on.

Brunson's Breakout Moment

This was the game Brunson's teammates and coaches have been waiting for. He'd been getting bottled up by Atlanta's D throughout the matchup, but Game 5 was different. Brunson found his rhythm and never let it go, putting up 39 points on a Hawks team that simply had no answer for him. When your best player finally breaks through against the defense that's been giving him fits all series, that's usually the turning point.

Towns Steps Up Too

It wasn't just about Brunson. Karl-Anthony Towns was effective in multiple ways, helping the Knicks control the tempo and pace of the game. With both guys clicking at the same time, Atlanta's defense looked completely overmatched. The Hawks never recovered from that first quarter blowout start, and by the time the final buzzer sounded, the Knicks had their biggest win of the series.

One More Win for the East

The Knicks head back to New York with a chance to close this thing out at home. After the performance Brunson and Towns just put on display, Hawks fans have to be sweating. When your opponent's top two scorers finally get in sync against your defense, and you lose by nearly 30 points, that's a problem you don't want to bring back to their house.
