Jets Just Loaded Up With Three First-Round Picks and Nobody in the AFC East Is Ready

The New York Jets came out of Day 1 of the 2026 NFL Draft swinging hard. They used three first-round selections to address some serious gaps, and if this haul is what it looks like on film, the rest of the division should be paying attention.

Bailey, Sadiq, Cooper: The Jets' Triple Threat

New York didn't mess around. At No. 2 overall, the Jets took David Bailey, the top pass rusher in this class. That's a statement pick. Your defense lives and dies with edge pressure, and Bailey is the kind of prospect who can flip an entire unit from mediocre to dangerous in year one.

But the Jets didn't stop there. Later in the first round, they added Kenyon Sadiq, a playmaking tight end who can line up anywhere and create mismatches. Then they closed out Round 1 with Omar Cooper Jr., a wide receiver who immediately gives their passing attack another weapon.

Building Around What They Have

Three first-round picks in a single draft is aggressive. It's the kind of move a front office makes when they believe they have their quarterback situation locked down and they're ready to win now. The Jets clearly identified three areas where they could make immediate impact and swung for the fences.

Whether it pays off depends on execution. Bailey has to live up to his draft position. Sadiq and Cooper have to stay healthy and productive. But on paper, this is the kind of draft haul that gets national attention and puts pressure on the rest of the AFC East to match intensity.

The Jets just changed their offseason narrative. Now we wait to see if their Week 1 roster can back it up.
