Jo Adell Put On a Defensive Clinic and the Mariners Had No Answer

The Angels' right fielder just delivered one of the most frustrating performances Seattle has seen all season, and it cost the Mariners a ballgame. Jo Adell robbed three home runs, including one off Cal Raleigh, in a 1-0 Angels victory that felt less like baseball and more like watching someone refuse to let you win.

Three Home Runs Taken Away

This wasn't just a good defensive day. This was historic. Raleigh had what should have been a home run taken away by Adell in right field. Then it happened again. And again. Three times total. The Mariners couldn't get anything to fall, and the one thing they did hit hard enough to potentially break through got gloved.

Nine-time Gold Glover Torii Hunter watched it unfold and called it "the greatest defensive game I've ever seen." That's not hyperbole from some random voice. That's a guy who has played the position at the highest level for decades saying what we all just witnessed was legitimately special. And it stung.

1-0 Hurts Different

A 1-0 loss at T-Mobile Park is tough to swallow any day, but when three of your hard-hit balls end up in one guy's glove? That's a different kind of frustrating. The Mariners didn't get blown out. They didn't get outpitched in a way that felt insurmountable. They got robbed. Three times.

This is the kind of game that sticks with you. The kind where you replay Raleigh's at-bats and think about what could have been. The kind where the opposing team's defense just said no, not today.

The Mariners need to shake this off and get ready for the next one. Games like this happen, but dwelling on it won't change the scoreboard.
