Jorge Soler Gets 7 Games, Reynaldo López Suspended Too: Here's What Went Down in Anaheim

The Angels and Braves got chippy in Anaheim and the MLB front office came down hard. Jorge Soler picked up a 7-game suspension while Reynaldo López got the same treatment at 5 games for their roles in the brawl. Both teams learned real quick that bench-clearing nonsense costs you depth down the stretch.

The Benches Cleared and Both Guys Paid the Price

Things escalated fast in Anaheim when the Angels and Braves went at it, and it spilled over into a full bench clear. Soler, who plays for Los Angeles, drew the harsher penalty at 7 games suspended. López, pitching for Atlanta, got hit with 5 games off the mound. The league wasn't messing around here. These aren't minor infractions. Seven games is real time, especially this early in the season when every win matters and every roster spot counts.

Early Season Discipline Sets a Tone

We're just getting rolling in April and guys are already testing the limits. The suspensions show that MLB is ready to enforce consequences fast and hard when things blow up like this. Both the Angels and Braves are going to feel the absence of these players during what could be a tight early stretch. You can't afford to lose guys to stupid stuff in April when you're still figuring out who you are as a team.

Next time these teams tangle, everybody knows the line a little clearer. Sometimes the biggest win is the one you avoid by keeping your cool.
