Kate Martin Out With Grade Two Right Quad Strain, Valkyries Dealing With Early Season Injury

The Golden State Valkyries are dealing with an early setback as guard Kate Martin is sidelined with a grade two right quad strain, the team announced on April 28. It's the kind of news that stings for a franchise trying to build off a historic inaugural season, especially as May approaches with some massive matchups on the horizon.

What's Next on the Schedule

The Valkyries have a heavy May slate ahead, with five of their eight games scheduled at Chase Center. The biggest names are coming to the Bay Area too. Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever roll into town on May 28, followed by four-time MVP A'ja Wilson and the reigning WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces on May 31. Those are the kind of showdown games that define a season early on, and Martin's absence is going to be felt on the roster.

Building Momentum Into May

Golden State earned a preseason win over the Seattle Storm, which should give the squad some confidence heading into the regular season grind. The team has also announced that season tickets are already sold out with over 12,000 season ticket holders, showing the fanbase is locked in on this inaugural run. Now they have to stay healthy and keep the energy rolling through a schedule that includes Phoenix Mercury on May 11 and Chicago Sky on May 14.

The Valkyries are striving to build off what was a historic first year, but injuries like Martin's grade two quad strain are the kind of curveballs that test depth and resilience. Here's hoping she gets healthy quick and can get back on the court soon.
