Kraken Miss Playoffs for Third Straight Season as Playoff Picture Tightens Across the League

The Kraken's season came to an end on Sunday as Seattle missed the playoffs for the third consecutive year. While the league's playoff races remained tight across a six-game slate, the home loss to Calgary meant another year without postseason hockey at Climate Pledge Arena.

A Brutal Stretch for Seattle

Missing the playoffs three years running is a tough pill to swallow for Kraken fans. The team has not been able to find the consistency needed to compete with the league's elite, and this year's finish adds to the growing frustration in the franchise's short history. With so much talent on the roster, the expectation was that Seattle would make a playoff push, but it just didn't materialize.

The Rest of the League Stays Competitive

Sunday was a busy day across the NHL, with six games on the docket. The playoff picture remained tight as teams battled for positioning. Around the league, other franchises were dealing with their own playoff dramas. The Red Wings missed the playoffs for the tenth straight season, while the Blues missed the postseason for the third time in four seasons. The Ducks, on the other hand, had a chance to clinch a playoff berth on the day.

Looking Ahead

For the Kraken, the offseason will be a time for reflection on what went wrong and how to build a contender. The team has the pieces to compete, but consistency and execution have to improve. Seattle fans will be looking for better results when next season rolls around and another opportunity to bring playoff hockey back to the Emerald City.
