The Seattle Mariners got blanked for the fourth time in 21 games Friday night, tying the worst mark in baseball. The Texas Rangers walked out of Arlington with a clean 5-0 victory, and now the Mariners are sitting 0-4 against the Rangers this season after their fourth straight loss. So naturally, skipper Dan Wilson's big message to frustrated fans is to pump the brakes.

"This is the time of year where you have to be patient. There's a long season ahead of us," Wilson said after watching his team manage just six hits against six Rangers pitchers. Yeah, that's not exactly what you want to hear when your offense ranks 28th out of 30 teams in baseball with a .209 batting average.

The Offense Is Broken Right Now

Wilson acknowledged what everyone watching T-Mobile Park already knows. "We keep talking about it. We keep looking at things and trying things," he said of an offense that looks completely lost. "But sometimes you look at things and at some point you got to get a break here or there to get things rolling. And just, it doesn't seem like it's been there for us yet."

Third baseman Brendan Donovan, one of the few bright spots at the plate, had to bail out after three innings Friday with a left hip issue. Wilson said he'd be re-evaluated before Saturday's game. Losing your leadoff hitter mid-game doesn't help when you're already struggling to put runs on the board.

Rangers Made It Look Easy

Texas got a lead-off homer from Brandon Nimmo in the first inning and that honestly was enough. Jacob deGrom couldn't find his rhythm, eating up 88 pitches through four innings and never reaching the five-inning mark to get credit for a win. Wyatt Langford, Jake Burger, and Josh Jung each collected three hits in the Rangers' 15-hit attack.

Rookie right-hander Gavin Collyer got his first career win coming out of the bullpen. Rangers manager Skip Schumaker called it a "pretty cool moment" and praised his staff for covering a ton of innings after deGrom's early exit.

Saturday Matters

George Kirby takes the ball for Seattle Saturday against the Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi. Kirby snapped a two-start skid with a 6-2 win over Houston on Monday, allowing two runs over 7 2/3 innings. He's actually been solid historically against Texas, posting an 8-1 record with a 1.31 ERA in 11 previous starts against them. Eovaldi has been rolling lately, winning his last two starts including a 3-2 decision against the Mariners on April 7.

The series continues Saturday in Seattle. The Mariners need to find something fast, because patience only lasts so long when you're getting blanked every other week.
