Beast Mode just went full Capitol Mode. Marshawn Lynch rolled into the California Assembly on Thursday in the middle of a heated debate about redistricting, and of course he immediately stole the show.
Assembly Member Buffy Wicks (D-Oakland) stopped the political bickering to introduce Lynch as a “true Renaissance man,” “one of the greatest athletes of all time,” and, of course, “the only man who has ever single-handedly caused an earthquake.” Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle actually paused their shouting match to give him an ovation.
Nobody explained why Marshawn was there, he just kind of popped up like the most Oakland thing possible. But if you’ve followed his career, it tracks. He’s hosted a podcast with Gov. Gavin Newsom, he’s always been about his community, and honestly? At this point, don’t be surprised if he runs for office one day.
Politics are boring. Marshawn Lynch showing up out of nowhere? That’s democracy at work.
