McDavid and Dickinson Are Game-Time Calls for Oilers in Must-Win Game 5

The Edmonton Oilers are facing a nightmare scenario heading into Game 5 of their first round matchup, and it's getting worse by the hour. Two of their biggest names are up in the air as game-time decisions, which tells you everything you need to know about where this series stands right now.

The Injury Uncertainty Is Real

Connor McDavid and Evan Dickinson are both listed as game-time decisions for tonight's contest. That's the kind of news that makes an Oilers fan hold their breath. You cannot be in a position where you're banking on health updates 24 hours before puck drop in the playoffs. The team's coach is speaking about "energy level" being there for a rally, which is coach-speak for "we need everything to go right from here." Translation: they're desperate.

Running Out of Time and Options

The Oilers are running out of time to find another level as a group, and the roster is feeling the weight of it. This is a team that cannot afford to be without its best players, especially not now. Every game from here on out is do or die, and Edmonton knows it. The margin for error in the playoffs is razor thin, and when your star power is in doubt heading into a crucial game, that's when seasons unravel in a hurry.

What's Next

Game 5 is tonight, and the Oilers need a win to stay alive in this series. If McDavid and Dickinson are ruled out or limited, that's a massive hit to the team's chances. Edmonton has to find a way to keep this alive, but the injury situation looming over this matchup is a cloud nobody wanted hanging over their playoff run right now.
