McDavid Wraps Up His 6th Scoring Crown and the Oilers Are Ready to Roll

Connor McDavid just put a bow on another dominant season. The Edmonton Oilers captain dropped four assists in Thursday night's 6-1 demolition of Vancouver, clinching his sixth Art Ross Trophy as the NHL's scoring leader with 138 points. That's eight points clear of Tampa Bay's Nikita Kucherov, and it ties McDavid with Mario Lemieux and Gordie Howe for second all-time in scoring titles. Only Wayne Gretzky's seven sit ahead of him.

A Historic Night for McDavid's Resume

McDavid didn't just secure the scoring title, he kept adding to his legacy. His four assists pushed him to 1,220 career points, moving him past Jeremy Roenick, Larry Murphy, and Jean Beliveau to crack the top 50 all-time scorers at 47th. He came into this season at 71st. That's the kind of trajectory that reminds you why he's one of the best to ever do this.

The Oilers Are Clicking at the Right Time

Edmonton finished 41-30-12 after going 7-2-2 in their last 11 games, enough to secure second place in the Pacific Division. The team got a major boost from forward Zach Hyman's return, and they're expecting star forward Leon Draisaitl back during their opening series. Rookie Matthew Savoie was electric too, recording his first career hat trick in the win. Josh Samanski, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and Colton Dach added goals, while Evan Bouchard chipped in three assists. Connor Ingram was solid in net with 11 saves.

Edmonton will host Anaheim on Monday night in Game 1 of the playoffs. The Oilers are peaking at exactly the right moment, and McDavid's another hardware to his name heading into the postseason? That's scary for the rest of the league.
