Nickeil Alexander-Walker Just Won the NBA's Most Improved Player Award and He's Part of an Elite Club

The Hawks guard is officially the 2025-26 Kia NBA Most Improved Player, and the stat behind it is absolutely wild. Alexander-Walker is only the fifth player in the last 35 seasons to post a year-over-year scoring jump of 11.0 points or more per game. That's the kind of leap that doesn't happen every year, and it just landed him one of the league's biggest individual awards.

When a Guy Suddenly Gets Really Good

This isn't just about Alexander-Walker putting up more points. Being named Most Improved means he's earned recognition across the entire league for taking a genuine step forward. The fact that only four other players in three and a half decades have made this kind of scoring jump tells you how rare this moment actually is. He's in some serious company now, and that's worth paying attention to.

What This Means for the Hawks

Individual awards are cool, but they matter most when they translate to team success. Alexander-Walker's breakout season shows Atlanta found something real this year. When a player makes that kind of leap in production, it usually means the rest of the roster benefits too. A guard who suddenly becomes a primary scoring option opens things up for everyone else on the floor.

The 2025-26 season is wrapping up, and the Hawks are heading into the playoffs with Alexander-Walker playing at a level nobody expected when the year started. That's the kind of variable that changes how deep a team can go.
