Canadiens Stun Sabres in Game 2 and Nobody's Talking About Newhook's Relentless Performance

The Montreal Canadiens just pulled even in their series against Buffalo with a Game 2 win, and it wasn't some flashy, headline-grabbing performance. It was grit. It was Newhook being relentless. It was the kind of game that wins in the playoffs when you need it most.

Montreal Takes Control Early

Newhook got the Canadiens on the board early in the first period, setting the tone right away. This wasn't a team playing scared or desperate after a potential Game 1 loss. Montreal came out ready to work, and that showed immediately. Then Matheson added to it with a goal from the point to push the lead to 2-0, giving the Canadiens some serious breathing room.

Buffalo did answer back late in the second period when Benson put the Sabres on the board, but by that point the damage was done. Montreal had already established control of the game, and one goal wasn't going to swing the momentum back the Sabres' way.

Series Now Tied and Headed Back West

With the win, Montreal evened up the series at one game apiece. This is exactly the kind of response you need in the playoffs. You don't panic, you don't overthink it, you go out and take care of business on the road. The Canadiens showed they belong in this matchup and that they're not going anywhere.

Buffalo's going to have to figure out how to break through defensively. One goal in a playoff game just isn't going to cut it, and the Sabres know it. They came into Game 2 needing to protect home ice and keep their series advantage. Instead, they're heading back to even territory heading into the next matchup.
