Tarik Skubal Just Went 5 Scoreless, And That Mariners Loss To The Tigers Stings So Much Worse Now

Yo, did anyone else catch that Mariners game against the Tigers? Losing 5-4, man, that stings. It always does in the Emerald City. But what’s really gonna make your blood boil, like that last sip of a lukewarm Rainier, is hearing about the guy on the other side, Tarik Skubal. This dude, who just tossed five scoreless innings in his first rehab start, is being called the best pitcher in baseball! And believe me, the trade chatter is already wild, even as the season rolls on.

Skubal Is The Real Deal, And Everyone Knows It

This isn't just some rumor. We're talking about Detroit's ace, a guy ESPN's Jeff Passan is already saying every contender will be coveting this summer. Skubal is genuinely that good, the kind of arm that can change a whole team's outlook. Just imagine if we had that kind of dominant pitching after watching us lose a tight 5-4 game to his team, the Tigers. It's tough, right? This guy just came back from rehab and immediately goes five scoreless, proving why he's considered the best pitcher in the game. It makes that recent loss to Detroit feel like a gut punch all over again.

The Price Tag For That Arm? Astronomical.

ESPN's MLB experts are already playing GM, trying to figure out what it would take to land Skubal, and let me tell you, teams are tripping over themselves. Even with the season still developing, the offers being floated for this dude are insane. The Oakland A's tried to put together a package with Luis Severino, Jamie Arnold, Devin Taylor, and Lawrence Butler. But Kiley McDaniel, ESPN's prospect analyst, basically laughed them out of the room, calling that offer "negative value" and saying it wouldn't even lead to a second conversation. Ouch! They'd basically be dumping contracts, not getting a blockbuster done. Then you've got the New York Yankees, who are always in the mix for big names, trying to get in on it. Their offer included slugger Spencer Jones and either Carlos Lagrange or Elmer Rodriguez, who are top pitching prospects. But even throwing in *all three* of those prospects wouldn't get it done because other teams had better offers. McDaniel straight up said the Yankees would need their No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 prospects just to be in a "dead heat" for the best offer! That's how high the price is for a guy like Skubal. So, while we're still processing that 5-4 loss to the Tigers, knowing what kind of talent they've got, it's clear the league is already looking to make some wild moves. We gotta keep our eyes peeled, 12s. What kind of moves do YOU think the Emerald City needs to make to compete with teams chasing guys like Skubal? Every game matters, especially when you see what kind of pitching talent is out there. Let's get it, Seattle!
