Toppenish Girls Win Five Straight and Washington Wrestling Is Not Ready For This Dynasty

Seattle sports fans, the Tacoma Dome absolutely popped off this past Saturday, February 21, 2026, for WIAA Mat Classic XXXVII! The energy was insane as Washington's best hit the mats, and the Toppenish girls came, saw, and CONQUERED, snatching their FIFTH straight team championship! We're talking dynasty, people. No one in the state is truly ready for this level of sustained greatness!

Toppenish's Legends: Montiel and Zuniga Dominate

Adalyne Montiel, the Toppenish phenom, celebrated her FOURTH individual title at Mat Classic! A four-timer is just unreal, a championship for the record books. Her individual brilliance was a massive part of Toppenish's incredible run to their fifth straight team title. Five straight, man! That's a program built to dominate year after year, something special to witness right here at the Tacoma Dome.

And the Toppenish boys? They fought hard for a second-place finish in the 2A category. Leading their charge was another absolute legend, Justyce Zuniga, who also claimed his fourth individual title! His career was built around a fast pace no one could match. To see two athletes from the same program achieve that rare feat of four individual titles in one event is mind-blowing. These kids are seriously next level.

Wapato Defends 1A, Zillah Shows Individual Power

In the 1A classification, the Wapato boys proved depth wins championships, leaning on their squad to defend their team title. They built that thing from the bottom up. Zillah boys finished as the runner-up again, but don't sleep on them! They boasted three individual winners, proving they've got some serious star power. It's a classic Valley rivalry playing out on the biggest stage.

Granger Claims Gold, Girls' Future Shines

Granger boys also made their mark, narrowly clinching the 2B team title with a pair of individual champions. That's a huge win. On the girls' side, the Granger squad finished as runner-up in the 1A/2B competition. Gabrielle Berger went out in style with a repeat title. Sonia Mendoza finally got the championship she'd chased for four years, and freshman Vanessa Torres? She launched her bid for the rarest of all prizes! We'll be hearing her name a lot, mark my words.

What a weekend for Washington wrestling! The Mat Classic XXXVII at the Tacoma Dome showcased pure talent and heart. These high school athletes are laying down legacies, folks, setting the bar incredibly high. It makes you pumped for what next year's Mat Classic will bring. Will Toppenish make it six?
