Wizards Win the Lottery and Nobody in the NBA Saw This Coming

The 2026 NBA Draft lottery just went sideways in the best possible way for Washington. The Wizards secured the No. 1 overall pick, and the chaos that unfolded behind them tells you everything about how unpredictable these things really are.

The Lottery Got Messy Fast

This wasn't some clean, predictable night. The Pacers came in heavy with pick protections, but they still lost their selection to the Clippers. That's not what they signed up for. Then the Nets, who had hopes of landing a top pick, fell all the way to No. 6. It's the kind of lottery night where the teams that thought they had a shot just watched their plans get torpedoed on live television.

Even the Hawks, riding some decent lottery luck lately, couldn't make it happen this year. Sometimes the balls just don't bounce your way, no matter how the odds looked on paper.

Washington Takes the Prize

The Wizards got what they came for. The No. 1 pick is theirs, and now comes the hard part: deciding who to build around with that massive asset. The entire draft order is finally locked in, and teams across the league can start mapping out their strategies for how every pick could play out.

For Washington, this lottery win opens the door to whoever they think is the franchise cornerstone. After months of speculation and waiting, the draft order is set. The question now isn't who won the lottery. It's who the Wizards are going to pick.
