OKC Just Locked Up the NBA's No. 1 Seed and Nobody in the West Is Stopping Them Now

The Thunder clinched the league's best regular-season record on Wednesday night with a win over the Clippers, and they just joined some seriously exclusive historical company doing it. This isn't just a regular season achievement. This is the kind of statement that makes every other team in the playoffs nervous.

What This Record Actually Means

We're talking about the best record in the entire NBA. Not the best in the West. Not the best at this point in April. The absolute best in basketball right now. OKC locked it up midweek and they're walking into the postseason as the clear favorites. When you're the No. 1 seed, you control your own destiny. You get home-court advantage throughout. You set the tone.

The fact that they clinched it this early in April tells you everything you need to know about their consistency and dominance all season long. They didn't back into this. They earned it night after night.

The Company They're Keeping

By securing the best record, OKC has joined some elite historical teams. That's not hyperbole. That's factual. When you look at the teams that have done what the Thunder just did, you're looking at some of the greatest rosters ever assembled. The Thunder are now in that conversation, at least statistically.

What Comes Next

The postseason is coming, and OKC will enter as the favorites to come out of the West. Every team that makes a run through the playoffs will have to go through Oklahoma City eventually, or avoid them until the Finals. That's the power of having the No. 1 seed in your pocket before the playoffs even start.
